A short film rendered entirely using Sequencer within Unreal Engine for Epic's Cinematic Summer challenge.
The narrative tells a very short story of discovery, dismay at the state of the natural world and hope that we can preserve our precious wild places for future generations.
Unlike my previous project (Industrious), I wanted to focus on quality over performance. That said, I still had to work with the project in editor so a balance between the two was found. With some minor tweaking, the environment would run well at 1080p. However, this time, I rendered the output as a 5k image sequence (downsampled to 4k when rendering the video).
The main challenge was balancing detail between the global and macro scales of the environment. Obviously, the smaller details were reserved for rendering within the camera's frustum, but a certain amount of world detail was required to produce a believable expansive forest that was present for the view from the top of the tower.
